The vessel is loaded with 27,500 tons of sunflower, it departed from the Argentine port of Bahia Blanca on December 7 last year and is currently in the Romanian port of Constanta – without unloading or clearly marking the final destination of the cargo.
In a commentary for Logos Press, agro-marketing expert Iurie Rija said that at the moment the information on this matter, voiced by market operators from Argentina, Turkey and Ukraine, “looks more like rumors than reliable information”.
However, as the quoted source notes, the mentioned volume of sunflower is very large for the Moldovan market, “its delivery requires five-six barges, or 800-900 railcars, or 1.2-1.3 thousand heavy trucks”. Obviously, such a quantity of raw material, if it ends up on the Romanian and/or Moldovan markets, would seriously change “the balance of supply and prices”.
At an indicative sunflower price of $420-450/t (CIF), the total value of the sunflower shipment of 27,500 tons is $11.5-12.3 mln.
