Mined Transnistria: Security Risks for Moldova
English

A booby-trapped Transnistria is a bomb

Moldova's information space was "undermined" by a repost of a publication from a Ukrainian website stating that "Ukraine has mined the border with the Transnistrian region". It would be strange if, in the fifth year of the war, Ukraine left open the border with the region where the Russian armed contingent is stationed. And it does not matter that it consists mainly of local residents who want to have paid jobs at home and are hardly eager to fight.

However, if you look closely, the news is not about that. “The brigade (Territorial Defense Force No. 120, LP note) said that the engineering and sapper units of the Ukrainian Defense Force, together with border guards of the Mohyliv-Podolsk border detachment, have been carrying out additional mine-clearing activities since March 25 in order to strengthen the state’s defense capability,” focus.ua wrote. – In addition to mines, barbed wire “Egoza” is being installed, as well as autonomous video surveillance and warning systems along the entire length of the border. According to the Operational Command West, additional units of mechanized troops with armoured vehicles are being deployed on the border with Transnistria to strengthen the defence forces in this direction”.

Even people far from military science and practice understand that mines are mined when they are defending themselves. And additional mechanized (highly maneuverable, armored) troops are mined and deployed when they are preparing for an offensive. This is the problem for us, the inhabitants of the Republic of Moldova.
