Since returning to the White House, U.S. President Donald Trump has set a course to cut foreign aid. His administration eliminated the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), reducing the number of programs from more than 6,000 to fewer than 900. In late August, Trump renewed his assault on foreign aid, announcing the cancellation of $4.9 billion in congressionally approved aid through a rarely used mechanism that the Government Accountability Office ruled illegal in 2018.

In Moldova, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), the MPC is used to determine the subsistence minimum. However, its composition, methodology of calculation and, as a consequence, its final value raise more and more questions. Is the MPC in Moldova an adequate reflection of reality or is it an outdated anachronism that prevents adequate assessment of poverty and well-being?

International rating agency Fitch Ratings in early September affirmed Moldova’s credit rating at B+ with a stable outlook. Moldova’s designated natural gas supplier, state-owned Energocom, does not intend to accumulate large gas reserves in foreign underground storage facilities. The company’s director, Eugeniu Buzatu, said that the supplier will limit itself to a minimum gas reserve of 15%.
