This was reported by RBC with reference to the prosecutor’s office of the Russian capital. According to the investigation, Chernyak was found guilty under the article on terrorism financing. The court also sentenced him to a fine of 500 thousand rubles (5.3 thousand euros).

The prosecutor’s office claims that from May 2022 to February 2023, he, being outside Russia, organized the transfer of more than 300 million rubles (3 million euros) to the accounts of foreign companies. Formally, the funds were used as settlements for commercial contracts, but the investigation claims that they were actually used to support Ukrainian armed formations, including units that are recognized as terrorist in Russia.

Chernyak was sentenced in absentia: he is to spend the first four years in prison and the remaining time in a high-security colony.

It should be noted that the businessman is on an international wanted list.

The Russian authorities had earlier launched a criminal case against him and claimed that large sums of money were allegedly sent to support the Ukrainian army. Chernyak himself and his representatives did not publicly comment on these accusations.

Global Spirits is an international alcoholic beverage holding company that produces vodka under the Khortytsya and other brands.
