According to the report, in December, the lowest annualized inflation was recorded in Cyprus (0.1%), France (0.7%) and Italy (1.2%). At the opposite end of the spectrum were Romania (8.6%), Slovakia (4.1%) and Estonia (4%).
Eurostat notes that compared to the situation in November 2025, annual inflation fell in 18 Member States, remained stable in three countries, including Romania (8.6%), and rose in six Member States.
In the euro area, the annual inflation rate fell to 1.9% in December, below the medium-term target set by the European Central Bank (ECB). Services made the largest contribution to the euro area’s annual inflation rate (1.54 percentage points), followed by food, alcohol and cigarettes (0.49 percentage points). At the same time, energy prices fell by 0.18 percentage points.
Earlier, the National Bank of Romania forecasted an inflation rate of 9.6% at the end of 2025. At the same time, the NBR expects consumer prices to rise by 3.7% in 2026.
