Athletes have improved financial conditions

The document will ensure a significant increase in the amount of lump-sum bonuses paid to athletes for high results in international tournaments. From now on, Moldovan athletes will receive 400,000 lei instead of the current 120,000 lei for winning the Olympic Games. A gold medal of the World and European Championships will be valued at 200 thousand lei. There will also be a bonus for the victory at the championship of Moldova – up to 5 thousand lei. The winners of the youth competitions (U-23) will receive a lump-sum payment from 100 to 200 thousand lei, depending on the status of the tournament. Juniors and cadets will receive payments not exceeding 100 thousand lei.

These sums will be supplemented by monthly stipends, the decision to increase them having been taken earlier by the government. Thus, the winner of the Olympics will receive a monthly stipend equal to five average salaries (80.5 thousand lei), the world champion – 64.4 thousand lei, and the European champion – 48.3 thousand lei.

According to the regulations approved by the government, the sports federations were officially authorized for the first time to spend up to 15% of their budget on administrative expenses. There is no additional funding for sports schools, but the list of allowable expenses for maintaining their activity has been significantly increased.

From 2026 to 2028, it is planned to allocate 92 million lei to federations and 37 million lei to athletes’ bonuses. In 2024, about 32 million lei was allocated from the budget for the financial support of athletes.
