Export sales of Ukrainian butter also face additional difficulties. Individual factories are reducing prices to hold on to foreign markets, particularly in Moldova. However, few producers can afford it for a long time.
In this regard, it should be noted that Moldova imports about 3-4 thousand tons of butter annually. From half to two thirds of the total volume of imported butter enters the Moldovan market from Ukraine.
According to the Association of Milk and Dairy Products Producers “Lapte”, reduction and rise in price of Ukrainian butter supplies to Moldova is unlikely to happen in the short term. Stocks of imported butter accumulated by traders and some reserves of this product at local producers will prevent a sharp rise in the price of the product by the end of the year. And from the beginning of next year, a new quota for duty-free import of butter from the European Union will open.
Usually, this quota lasts until spring, which restrains butter prices in winter – the period of the most active consumption of dairy products.
