The volume of bank transfers to Moldova from abroad in favor of individuals in January-April 2025 amounted to $487.3 million, decreasing by $30.65 million (-6%) compared to the same period of 2024.

According to the National Bank of Moldova, in April, the volume of remittances amounted to $131 million, decreasing by 1.3% compared to the previous month ($132.52 million), as well as decreasing by 10.8% compared to April 2024 ($146.73 million).

The highest monthly amount of transfers since the beginning of the year was in March – $132.5 million.

At the same time, in the structure by currencies, transfers in euros in April amounted to 80% (-2 p.p. vs. April 2024), in US dollars – 20% (+2 p.p.). Remittances in Russian rubles are still unavailable.

In April, the share of the dollar in the structure of currency transfers amounted to 18%, the euro – 81.9%.

The regulator noted that the amounts of remittances from abroad in favor of individuals are converted from the original currency of transfer into US dollars at the official exchange rate of the NBM on the date of transfer. Both the origin and the destination of these amounts may be of different nature. They include, besides transfers of Moldovan migrants, also other remittances: salary transfers to resident individuals from representative offices of non-residents (international financial institutions, international organizations) in Moldova, transfers in favor of foreign citizens temporarily staying on the territory of Moldova, social pensions, allowances, alimony.

NBM data do not include payments through banks from the Transnistrian region.

As it was mentioned earlier, the volume of remittances to Moldova from abroad in favor of individuals through banks in 2024 amounted to $1.6 billion, decreasing by $16.1 million (-1%) compared to 2023. The absolute record in terms of remittances from abroad was registered in 2022, when this indicator amounted to $1.75 billion, increasing by $1.3 million (+8.3%) compared to the previous year.
