The needs and opportunities for the development of the Agricultural Knowledge and Innovation System (AKIS) for farmers in the Republic of Moldova were identified by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry (MAIA) and the Center for Agricultural Consultants (CCAR) during a joint meeting with development partners - representatives of the PL Solidarity Fund in Moldova and the Embassy of the Republic of Latvia in the Republic of Moldova.

The dialogue was organized in the framework of the Sustainable Food Systems Project. As noted in the MAIA report, “the consultations allowed to develop an applied framework for models of interagency cooperation and to outline strategic directions for the development of AKIS system functions.

AKIS is designed as an integrated ecosystem focused on organizing collaboration between farmers, agricultural researchers, agricultural advisors, educational institutions, public authorities, non-governmental organizations and the private sector. This mechanism aims to improve access to information, modern technologies and innovative solutions that contribute to the competitiveness of Moldovan agriculture.

The AKIS development process in RM is supported by the initiative “Team Europe-Sustainable Agri-Food Systems”, funded by the European Union and the Czech Republic. The implementation is carried out by the Czech Development Agency and the PL Solidarity Fund in Moldova in partnership with the Latvian Agricultural Advisory and Training Center.
