These and other goals will be achieved as a result of the implementation of the Program of Digital Transformation of the Energy Sector for 2026-2030, which the government approved at a meeting on October 8. It was developed by the Ministry of Energy with the support of UNDP Moldova and the Government of Italy.

According to the Energy Ministry, the Program envisages that up to 100,000 vulnerable households will be equipped with smart meters by 2027, and a total of 500,000 meters will be installed in the country, which will cover at least 40% of household consumers.

“Digital transformation of the energy sector is a strategic priority. It brings concrete benefits to every citizen, reducing costs, increasing transparency and providing effective tools to manage energy consumption, while strengthening the security and competitiveness of the sector. Households will be able to control and optimize their energy consumption, effectively becoming managers of their bills, and the national economy will benefit from a safer and more efficient infrastructure,” stressed Energy Minister Dorin Jungietu.

The document envisages the modernization and efficiency increase of the energy networks, which will reduce losses by up to 10%, and will allow saving about 200 million lei annually. The implementation of the Program will also make it possible to reduce operating costs by 20-25% by 2030, ensuring more affordable tariffs for consumers and increasing the competitiveness of enterprises.

In parallel, the Program envisages the introduction of a National Register of Consumption Locations (RNLC) and the assignment of a unique code to each one, which will facilitate transparent billing, constant monitoring and, if necessary, quick change of suppliers.

At the same time, data on energy production, imports and consumption will be collected, analyzed and made available in real time, providing access to authorities, suppliers and consumers.

Digital transformation will also have a significant impact on the transition to green energy. The integration of renewable energy sources will increase from 150 MW to 600 MW by 2030.

The program will contribute to achieving the National Integrated Energy and Climate Plan (INECP) targets of 30% renewable energy use and Moldova’s transition to a green economy.
