Moldova will have seven new irrigation systems
MAIA’s Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry together with the IFAD Joint Program Implementation Unit (UCIP) announced the first two tenders for the construction of irrigation systems this year. A total of seven such systems capable of irrigating almost one thousand hectares of farmland will be constructed in Moldova in 2026 with IFAD grant support.
The first two systems will be built in the villages of Bălăureşti (Nisporeni) and Budesti (Chisinau municipality).
Ten major projects are planned for the current year in the centralized irrigation sector of RM under MAIA and IFAD. Among them, construction of irrigation systems in Ialoveni, Nisporeni, Donduseni, Soldanesti, Rezina and Ungheni districts; reconstruction of reservoirs in Nisporeni and Cahul; modernization of the access road to farmland in Ocnita district.
As a result, 306 agricultural producers will have access to water and technical capacities for irrigation.
