This is how the Supreme Court of Cassation reacted to the “rescue” of the draft state budget for 2026, where the ruling coalition cut the budgets of the justice system for the sake of social benefits, reports Digi24.

The case will be heard by the Bucharest Court of Appeal, with the plaintiff Supreme Court also asking the Court of Appeal to impose a fine of 20% of the gross minimum wage in the economy for each day of delay on the “responsible persons”, i.e. the prime minister and the finance minister.

As part of the budget process, 1.1 billion Romanian lei was diverted from justice to help pensioners and vulnerable people, while 770 million lei was later allocated to local authorities.

Thus, the Supreme Court demands almost 2 billion lei back to its jurisdiction, considering that these resources were “unjustifiably denied”.
