The process of creating the platform is supported by the Moldovan-Swedish project “PACE Local: Local Public Administration and Civic Participation”.
The members of the network declared a proactive position in the dialog with the governmental structures involved in the process of Moldova’s accession to the European Union, so that the voice of local administrations is heard in the development and implementation of reforms at the national level.
The mayors will be guided by the experience of development of localities in the EU in order to bring Moldovan administrative, economic and social standards closer to the European ones.
What this will bring to local authorities
This practice will facilitate the access of local authorities to EU investment programs and will help them to use them more efficiently. It means training for the employees of the mayoralties on project management, on improving the public procurement process.
The newly established network also intends to more actively implement these standards in local public administration and to achieve maximum transparency in the decision-making process. This will be greatly assisted by digitalization.
Trainings and information sessions with representatives of central authorities are planned for the near future. The agenda also includes study visits to the EU institutions in Brussels and study visits to the EU member states in order to borrow European models of governance and adapt them to our realities.
The network of local European integration ambassadors is being launched in pilot mode. Then the platform will be expanded by attracting new members. The initiators believe that the direct involvement of local authorities is a crucial element in the success of the reforms needed for the country to join the EU.
