Inflation devalues wage growth

The growth rates of average salaries in Moldova barely cover their inflationary depreciation, while the cost of labor in different sectors of the economy remains habitually differentiated, Logos Press reports.

Inflation devalues wage growth

National Bureau of Statistics informs that in the 2nd quarter of 2025, the average monthly gross salary in the enterprises of the real sector and in all budgetary organizations amounted to 15,470.6 lei, increasing by 10% over the year and – by 6.2% compared to the first quarter. In real terms – adjusted for the devaluation – the increase amounted to 1.9%. At the same time, the average number of employees did not change significantly over the year (+0.8%).

In the budget sector, in the second quarter of 2025, the average monthly salary amounted to 13,162.2 lei (10.3% more than in the second quarter of 2024), while in the real sector – 16,252.2 lei (9.9% more than in the second quarter of 2024).

The highest values of average monthly earnings are traditionally recorded in the sectors: “information and communication” (36274,0 lei), “financial and insurance activity” (29825,5 lei), “production and supply of electricity and heat, gas, hot water and air conditioning” (23 599,7 lei). The outsiders of the labor market are still “agriculture, forestry and fishing” (9997,8 lei), “accommodation and catering activities” (10 509,5 lei), “art, recreation and leisure” (11 565,2 lei).

Although, as the statistics notes, salaries increased in all types of economic activities. Salaries increased most significantly in the HoReCa sector (by 18%), in the extractive industry (by 16%), in the activity of providing administrative and auxiliary services (by 15%). Although in quarterly terms the growth of salaries was felt mainly by financial workers (by 14%), and fragmentarily by doctors and scientists (by 13%).
