Azerbaijani gas will go to Moldova via TAP

This is stated in a press release of the pipeline company ICGB – operator of the Greece-Bulgaria interconnector (IGB).

Earlier it was reported that the national energy regulators of Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Moldova and Ukraine approved two new routes – Route 2 and Route 3 – for gas supplies to Ukraine, the press release said.

Now Moldova and Ukraine from this route will be able to receive gas from three sources – liquefied gas from the Alexandroupolis terminal, Caspian pipeline gas via TAP through the Greek-Bulgarian interconnector IGB and the Trans-Balkan corridor.

“From December 22, 2025, all three routes are available simultaneously on the regional booking platform. ICGB will additionally offer a 46% discount on tariffs to encourage capacity utilization,” the press release said.

The Trans Adriatic Pipeline is the western component of the Southern Gas Transmission Corridor, designed to transport gas primarily from the Caspian Sea to Western Europe. It connects the Trans-Anatolian Gas Pipeline (Turkey) in the east with an exit at the Melendugno point in the west (Italy), put into commercial operation on November 15, 2020. The 878-km pipeline route runs through Greece, Albania, the Adriatic Sea (offshore part), Italy.

In the gas supply project for Moldova and Ukraine, it is part of Route 3, which starts at the connection of the TAP and IGB pipelines and follows the same route as Route 2 to Moldova and then to Ukraine.

IGB connects the gas systems of Greece and Bulgaria, has a length of 182 km and a design capacity of up to 3 billion cubic meters per year. The capacity can be increased to 5 billion cubic meters.
