President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said at an event in the capital Ankara that Turkey remains steadfast in its efforts to “promote peace, tranquility and stability” in the region.
According to state-run Anadolu Agency, Erdogan said Turkey is doing its best to “liberate our region from this chaos” without further casualties.
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, quoted by Reuters, also said Turkey was in talks with all parties to the conflict to find a way to end the war in Iran and return to negotiations. He added that Ankara is also in talks with Oman on the issue as the Gulf country is working on the same.
Many media outlets have written that Turkey is facing growing economic risks amid the conflict between the US, Israel and Iran. Citing economists, opposition portal Turkischminute notes that the greatest vulnerability is related to energy markets. In addition, long-term uncertainty is related to security and migration along the eastern border – Turkey and Iran share a 534-kilometer border.
“Diplomacy remains a priority for Ankara, with authorities vigilant on the border and watching out for economic consequences, realizing that a protracted war could simultaneously strain the country’s finances, security and social stability,” the publication concludes.
