The decision was made by the Executive Committee of the Moldovan Football Federation (FMF), having previously canceled its own decision of July this year. It provided for the distribution of solidarity payments between seven Super League clubs (€59,882 each) and 11 Ligue 1 clubs (€6,075 each).
The new scheme does not provide for the allocation of funds to second division clubs, thus increasing the amount that will be received by the seven top division clubs – €69.428 each. The FMF explains this decision by the changes adopted by UEFA, according to which the solidarity payments are distributed only among the clubs playing in the top division.
The only Superleague club that did not receive solidarity payments was Petrocub (Hincesti), which last season participated in the group stage of the Conference League. The total revenue of the Moldovan 2023/24 champions in the last season of European competitions exceeded €4.3 million.
UEFA, by allocating solidarity payments, provides clubs with financial support to ensure their financial sustainability and continued participation in professional tournaments. For the period from 2024 to 2027, the solidarity payments are set to increase from 4% to 7% of the organization’s projected €4.4 billion revenue threshold.
Logos Press reported that earlier this year, Moldovan clubs received from UEFA almost €5 million in solidarity payments, which should be used to invest in projects for the development of soccer schools / academies (training of young players, infrastructure, equipment). At that time, the vast majority of Super League clubs received €594 thousand each, while Ligue 1 clubs received €66.7 thousand each.
