Victor Pelin’s Tree of Life

Victor Pelin

The exhibition introduces us to the art of artistic woodworking. Bowls, decorative dishes, dowry chests, cutlery and other handmade items are decorated with floral, geometric or anthropomorphic motifs. He creates unique things that reflect the taste of the master and the aesthetics of the time. Victor Pelin has ennobled wood, embodying the spirit of folk traditions; in his artistic universe, the material comes to life.

One of the peculiarities of artistic carving is its diversity. Each element carries meaning, emphasizes style and harmonizes with the shape of the product. For example, plant ornaments symbolize nature, and geometric patterns emphasize strictness and order.

What is important – wood with its texture and aromas gives the products warmth and naturalness.

Victor Pelin is also the author of unique trophies commissioned for prestigious national events. Throughout his creative career, he has represented Moldova with honor at numerous international exhibitions in Ukraine, Romania, Italy, Germany, Russia and China. He has been awarded the honorary title of Meșter Faur.

Victor Pelin’s desire for artistic woodworking was passed on to him at an early age from his father and grandfather. However, he chose to become a telecommunications engineer, a profession he spent about 30 years working in. He returned to woodworking only in the 1990s. He has long cooperated with the National Museum of Nature and Ethnography, to which he has donated many pieces.
