IGP is the new must have of the “Vernissage of Wines”.

The spring "Vernissage of Wines" will take place on May 16. Its slogan is "Origin and Authenticity: 10 years of wines with protected geographical indication". The XXIII "Vernissage of Wines" is dedicated to wines with IGP, because 10 years ago the first harvest of grapes in Moldova was processed for the production of these wines.

IGP is the new must have of the “Vernissage of Wines”.

Stefan Yamandi, director of the National Bureau of Vine and Wine, said for Logos Press that, in honor of the tenth anniversary of the production of wines with IGP in Moldova, it was decided to launch a campaign to promote wines with the geographical indication, which will last throughout the year. Besides the spring “Vernissage of Wines”, the NBVIW will present our wines with IGP within the World Congress of the International Organization of Vine and Wine (OIV), which will be held in Chisinau, in June. Then they will be emphasized during the National Wine Day celebrations.

However, apart from IGP wines, the spring “Vernissage of Wines” will also include Divins, which are also products with geographical indication – IG Divin. And also among the participants will be producers of sparkling wines made by classic technology or by the “charm” method. Despite the fact that there are few IGP wines among domestic sparkling wines, they will also be promoted. The Concours Mondial du Bruxelles Sparkling Wines Session to be held in Chisinau in September will also serve this purpose.

In total, more than 40 companies have registered to participate in the “Vernissage of Wines”. This time the Capitoles Park restaurant was chosen for the event, because there, besides the indoor space, there is also a terrace, which is also planned to be used in good weather. Divines will not be separated from the wines, as it is done at the winter Wine Vernissage.

Since not all wineries are entitled to participate in this event, it can be considered that wine producers with IGP have received some preferential treatment. They often talk about it, as it should be logical that more troublesome, costly and responsible production should have some advantages. So far, winemakers have not been able to convince consumers in their country and importers that they should pay more for a higher guaranteed quality product. These wines tend to cost as much as wines without IGP, if not cheaper.

“This is exactly what we are discussing with companies,” Stefan Yamandi reported. – Last week there was a joint meeting with the board of the association of wine producers with IGP Valul lui Traian. Unfortunately, due to the full agenda of international events, we physically do not have time to organize the DeVin & DeGust festival, which is dedicated to IGP wines. But we are trying to develop not only the production of wines with IGP, but also with protected appellation of origin (DOP). For example, we are currently working on the creation of DOP Tigheci, and we are helping this association with funding to show the potential for the development of this area”.
