The Hungarian RBP platform ended auctions for the Vertical Gas Corridor from Greece to Ukraine in February. Of the three options, only transit from the Revitus terminal was ordered, and then only 4.5 thousand cubic meters per day out of the offered 2.1 million cubic meters per day.
The other two options (supplies from the Alexandroupolis terminal and Caspian gas) did not find any customers at all.
Earlier in January the Vertical Gas Corridor did not find anyone willing to book capacity, and in November and December the companies also ordered the first option and at most half of the volumes offered – 600 thousand cubic meters and 1.3 million cubic meters per day respectively.
Thus, the promised flow of American LNG through Greece to Ukraine will not happen again. Although back in November Volodymyr Zelensky visited Athens and Naftohaz Ukrainy signed memorandums on LNG supply with the Greek state-owned company DEPA. At that time, the Ukrainian national company said that the shipment would start in December-January.
In the current heating season, which started in October, Ukraine imported 2.99bn cu.m. of gas, and the southern route accounted for only 4.7 percent of the supplies – 141m cu.m., according to the Ukrainian GTS Operator.
Three branches of the Vertical Gas Corridor run from Greece through Bulgaria, Romania, Moldova and lead to Ukraine.
