It is important for Moldova to develop a local breeding base,” notes Vasile Charban, State Secretary of the MAIA Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry, in this regard. – Farmers have subsidy mechanisms, and the CNCPS Center strengthens these opportunities through information and technological support. We are determined to work on increasing the share of seeds of local selection on the agricultural input market of the Republic of Moldova”.
On CNCPS lands in Porumbeni, the main soil cultivation was carried out on an area of more than 500 ha, 57 ha of peas were sown, the specialists of the institution are preparing seed plots for corn and sunflower. In the sector “Breeding” on the area of more than 180 hectares oats and mixtures of cover crops were planted, on 45 hectares – spring peas under the traditional system and on 27 hectares – under the resource-saving system “no-till” (direct sowing, without tillage). Soon 144 hectares of seed sunflower will be sown under the “no-till” system.
In recent years, the CNCPS center’s activities have been supported by significant investments. With the support of UCIP IFAD, thanks to an investment of about 4.9 million lei, the institution has strengthened its technical base necessary for the application of conservation agriculture systems. In addition, within the Livada Moldovei project, about 1.2 million euros were invested in the institution’s infrastructure (elevator and cold storage) in 2025-26. The procurement of a modern technological line for seed calibration, processing and packaging is also underway.
