Specifically, the industry association proposed expanding the special subsidy program to offset the cost of keeping cows in the dry period.

Previously, such support was funded by the EU in 2022-2025 under the ARISE Emergency Project for micro and small farms. It is now proposed to extend the program to all industrial dairy farms in Ukraine.

The approximate amount of support is 160 euros per cow per year. If there are 386.3 thousand industrial cows in the country on January 1, 2026, the total need for financing is about 62 million euros, writes the Ukrainian edition of Delo.

The reason for the initiative was the critical situation in the industry: purchase prices for raw milk are rapidly declining and have fallen below the economically justified level, which makes production unprofitable.

Nevertheless, last year exports of Ukrainian dairy products increased by more than a third and exceeded $375m.
