
Ukrainian operator Naftohaz has signed an agreement with a subsidiary of Azerbaijani state oil company SOCAR, which provides for the supply of small volumes of gas in a test mode via the Trans-Balkan corridor. The route provides for the transit of blue fuel through Bulgaria and Romania. Until now, Ukraine has mainly purchased gas from its more northern neighbors – Hungary, Slovakia and Poland
According to RBC, Naftohaz has signed the first agreement with SOCAR Energy Ukraine (a subsidiary of SOCAR) for the purchase of gas. This was confirmed by the chairman of the board of the Ukrainian company Serhiy Koretsky, who called the deal “a strategically important step that opens the way to long-term cooperation” between Kiev and Baku and diversifies the sources of supply. However, other details of the agreement were not specified – neither the volume of test deliveries nor the time of implementation
According to RBC, last week Naftogaz raised UAH 4.7 billion in loans from Ukrgazbank and PrivatBank to purchase natural gas.
As of the beginning of July, natural gas reserves in Ukrainian underground gas storage facilities exceeded 8bn cu.m., the storage facilities were 25.9 percent full, the Ukrainian daily NewVoice reported. This is 19.6 percent less than in 2024, the current reserves remain the lowest for at least the last 11 years.
