In 2025-26 marketing year, Ukraine will export 505 ths

Taking into account the remainder of the sugar beet crop harvested this year, in the 2025-26 season Ukraine will be able to produce about 1.3 million tons of sugar, which is 26.3% less than in the last marketing year and 12.6% below the average for the last five years. In this marketing year, the area under sugar beet decreased to 199 thousand hectares, which is 21.6% less than the previous season and 12.4% below the five-year average. This was reported by analysts of the Ukrainian Club of Agrarian Business (UCAB).

The main reasons for the reduction of indicators of the sugar industry of Ukraine – the introduction of quotas for the supply of sugar to the EU countries and complicated logistics of supplies to other foreign markets. Also, after the introduction of quotas on sugar supply to the EU, total exports in 2024-25 decreased to 629 thousand tons (14.2% reduction). In MY 2025-26, this figure will decrease again to 505 thousand tons of sugar.

The main destinations for Ukrainian sugar exports were Africa (32%) and the Middle East (29%), while the share of the EU amounted to only 17%.

Domestic consumption of sugar has also decreased. By 2022 it amounted to 1.1 million tons, and in 2025-2026 – 0.9 million tons. The main reason was the decrease in the Ukrainian population.
