US President Donald Trump believes that Washington’s military operation in Iran will probably continue for the coming four weeks. The head of the White House gave an interview to the Daily Mail, which the newspaper published on Sunday, March 1, writes dw.com.

According to his version, everything is going according to plan. The US has “destroyed all” of Iran’s leadership, the head of state claims, adding that it is apparently about 48 individuals.

The American leader said he was open to further talks with Iran, but could not say whether they would take place “in the near future.”

“I don’t know. They want talks, but I said: ‘You should have talked last week, not this week,'” Trump emphasized.

Second address to the people of the United States in 48 hours

The head of the White House addressed the American people on the afternoon of March 1. Donald Trump vowed to “avenge” the three dead American soldiers, issued a new ultimatum to Tehran and called on the US to support its fight for “freedom”. This is the second address to the nation in the past 48 hours, the Daily Mail recalled.

Earlier, on March 1, in an interview with The Atlantic, the head of the White House accused the Iranian authorities of “waiting too long.” He specified that some of the Iranian negotiators with whom Washington had been in contact in recent weeks had been killed in the strikes. “They could have made a deal. They should have done it earlier. They were too devious,” Trump stated.

Israeli and U.S. military operation against Iran

Israel and the United States launched strikes against Tehran and other locations inside Iran on the morning of February 28. Donald Trump declared his intention to destroy the Islamic Republic’s nuclear program. He called on the Iranian army to lay down its arms and the country’s residents to “take their fate into their own hands.”

Iran responded with strikes on the territory of Israel and other Middle Eastern countries. The U.S. military’s Central Command said on February 28 that damage to U.S. facilities in the Middle East from Iranian strikes was “minimal and did not affect operations.” However, on March 1, it reported that the strikes killed three U.S. military personnel and seriously wounded five.

On the second day of the Israeli-U.S. military operation, the Iranian side confirmed the deaths of the country’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and several senior security officials, including Defense Minister Aziz Nasirzadeh and Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps commander Mohammad Pakpour, in the strikes.

Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian, in a televised address, called Ali Khamenei’s death a “crossing of a red line” and promised a “proportionate and tough response,” asserting Iran’s right to self-defense and the potential of the armed forces.

Trump in response stated that the U.S. would strike with a force never before seen.

“Iran has just said that they will strike very hard today, harder than they have ever struck before. However, they better not, because if they do, we will strike them with a force never seen before!” – Trump wrote on Sunday.
