
The National Bureau of Statistics reports an increase in the volume of transported cargo with a decrease in the transportation distance. Enterprises of railway, road, river and air transport carried 14.3 million tons of cargo, which is 0.8% more than in January-September 2024. The volume of cargo turnover amounted to 4119.9 million ton-km, which is 3.9% less than the corresponding indicator of the previous year.
The main revival occurred in the third quarter of the year, when the volume of cargo transported increased by 10%, which could not fully compensate for the drop in volumes in the first half of the year (-5%).
Railroad transportation accounts for only 13% of the cargo transported. At the same time, there was a steady decline in both the volume of goods transported and the duration of their transportation (by 1.3% and 2.4%, respectively).
In air transport in January-September as compared with the same period of the previous year, a decrease in both the volume of transported cargoes and duration of transportation is also registered – by 38.1% and 31.9% respectively.
For water transport during the analyzed period the growth by 13.1% was registered both in terms of volume of transported cargoes and duration of transportation. But the palm of superiority is held by motor transport, which occupies 85.8% in the structure of transported cargoes. However, in January-September 2025, compared to a year earlier, there is a slight increase in the volume of transported cargo (by 1%) and a decrease in cargo turnover by 4%.
In total, road transport enterprises transported 12.3 million tons of cargo in this period, of which 8.9 million tons in domestic traffic (72.4% of the total volume) and 3.4 million tons in international traffic (27.6%).
The share of goods transported by road transport in the total volume of goods transported by this type of transport in Chisinau mun. Chisinau accounted for 54.7%, in the development regions North – 15.5%, Center – 20.3%, South – 4.6% and ATU Gagauzia – 4.9%.
