According to the agency’s statement, the actions are part of the authorities’ efforts to conduct a parallel investigation to establish the source of the pollution and identify those responsible. Field inspections and laboratory tests are being carried out in this direction, and all the circumstances of the incident are being clarified.
The Inspectorate emphasizes that following the investigation, the responsible persons will be held liable in accordance with the legislation in force, including compensation for the damage caused to the environment. Relevant information will be made available to the public as the results of the investigation become available.
Earlier, the Chisinau City Hall also clarified the situation with the pollution of the water of the Buc River, specifying that it is not used for public water supply.
“Apă-Canal Chișinău” reported that the source of drinking water for the capital is the Dniester River, not the Bîc. At the same time, the sewage networks served by it are operating normally.
Once the Environmental Protection Agency analyzes the samples, it will be possible to determine exactly what the spilled substance is.
