The National Bank has run out of “Personalities”

The issuance of each commemorative coin is accompanied by the central bank with explanatory information about the characteristics of the person who deserves to be minted.

“April 1, 2026 marks the 150th anniversary of the birth of Ion Pelivan (1876-1954), a prominent figure of the national liberation movement in Bessarabia and one of the initiators of the Unionist movement within the County Council. He played a decisive role in the historical process leading to the unification of 1918.

Ion Pelivan belonged to the ‘golden generation’ of Bessarabia, who contributed to the establishment of national identity and strengthening the ideal of reunification through his political, educational and cultural activities,” the ministry said in its official explanation.

The commemorative coin is made of silver, has a nominal value of 50 lei and is issued in 500 copies. The graphic design was elaborated by the artist Giorgeta Vrabie.

Commemorative coins are sold to the public on the basis of applications submitted online in the “Coins” section of the official website, as well as through licensed banks in Moldova. Banks may independently set the selling price, but not more than 3% above the level set by the NBM. The Certificate contains a QR code allowing direct access to detailed information on the coin’s characteristics.
