According to the agency, unknown persons illegally use the name of the State Tax Service and present themselves as employees of the tax authority, informing recipients about allegedly imposed fines of up to 20,000 lei.
The messages contain references to inadequate legal norms and indicate addresses that are not represented by official subdivisions of the institution. In some cases, citizens are assured that they will receive court summonses at their place of residence.
STS representatives emphasize that these notifications do not come from the institution, being an attempt to mislead taxpayers.
The tax authority recommends that citizens ignore such messages and immediately notify law enforcement agencies, as well as the STS, if they are contacted in this way.
The STS specifies that any communication related to tax obligations should be official and carried out through verified institutional channels. Citizens are advised to check information on the official page of the STS or on the official accounts of the institution in social networks.
