
The data shows that the number of women in these occupations in the EU continues to grow, from 3.4 million in 2008 to 7.9 million in 2024.
The share of women in the EU Member States is higher in the knowledge-intensive services and service sectors, while it is lower in industry. This is evidenced by the latest Eurostat data cited by bb.lv.
Moldova has a high level of gender parity in the scientific field. According to the Ministry of Education and Research (MOE), women represent 51% of all researchers and development workers in the country. Among them, 54.3% are PhDs, although their share is lower (about 35.2%) among habilitate PhDs.
The highest proportion of women is in the humanities and social sciences, and the lowest in engineering and technology. Their presence is higher in medicine, social sciences, natural sciences, engineering, humanities and agriculture.
While in the past research projects were mainly led by men, the situation has been changing in recent years.
