Romania will export bananas worth 3.4 million euros in 2024, slightly more than the previous year, according to Eurostat data. Five years ago, in 2020, exports amounted to 7.7 million euros, and in 2021 they peaked at 14.5 million euros, according to the same source, zf.ro wrote.

“If we look at the statistics, we see that Romania is exporting bananas. This is a big surprise. Bananas appear green and need to ripen, and Romania is well prepared for ripening and, in fact, ‘produces’ bananas exactly as they are,” a horticulturist from Transylvania commented on the news for Romanian journalists.

If it used to be more difficult for Romania to get access to these fruits, now it supplies them to other countries. More precisely, to neighboring countries.

According to Eurostat, bananas from Romania mainly go to Hungary and the Republic of Moldova. Smaller quantities are sent further away, to Poland, Slovenia, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic and even Germany, the Romanian publication claims.
