A total of 15 scholarships were granted. According to the government decision approved on September 24, the monthly amount of the President’s scholarship was increased from 3,690 to 3,860 lei for university students and from 2,860 to 2,995 lei for students of vocational education institutions.
In the current academic year, the monthly budget allocated for these scholarships amounts to 38,600 lei for each of 10 students and 14,975 lei for each of 5 students. Thus, for 10 months, the amount exceeds half a million lei.
The merit scholarships were applied for by students of the first cycle, including students of medical and pharmaceutical universities, as well as students who, in the previous year, obtained an average score of at least 9.0 in such fields as technical, agrarian, economic, medical, military, legal and natural sciences, and at least 9.5 in other fields. A total of 65 applications were submitted. Candidates were selected by specialized commissions based on such criteria as academic performance, extracurricular activities, participation in scientific research, conferences, competitions, Olympiads and publications.
The lists of candidates were approved by the senates of higher education institutions and pedagogical councils of vocational education institutions after evaluation of applications.
The financial means necessary for granting scholarships are annually provided for in the State Budget Act within the limits of the appropriations approved for this purpose.
The decree of the Head of State on the establishment of the Presidential Scholarship was signed in October 2022.
