English

Opinion: “And without the conflict in Iran, we were paying 36 lei per liter of diesel. But the authorities did not react.”

“Experience shows that without the conflict in Iran and the war in Ukraine, Moldovans were already paying 36 lei per liter of diesel fuel,” recalled Dumitru Roibu, chairman of the political party “Alliance of Moldovans”. – But the authorities said that despite this, gas stations were full. They have not seen the consequences of this increase for ordinary people. And I wouldn’t be surprised if this approach is repeated now.”

“I don’t understand why prices started to rise with the beginning of the conflict, as if oil products arrive in Moldova on the same day,” the politician said. – It is a serious problem when the prices of gasoline and diesel fuel are rising at such a speed at gas stations and the citizen pays more.”

He believes that the introduction of a high alert regime in the energy sector had not previously brought obvious benefits to citizens and raised many questions about how the decisions were made.

“I don’t think this regime will somehow make life easier for people,” Dumitru Roibu noted. – We have been in similar situations before, when natural gas prices rose. And we saw that there were a lot of questions, not only about the purchase price, but also about the speed and secrecy of certain decisions. In the end, some people are hiding behind a collective decision, and I don’t think they will be held accountable.”
