As of March 12, 2026, the Ministry of Environment stated that the situation is under control, water supply has been restored in many areas, and there is no direct threat to Chisinau at the moment.

Oil flow from Ukraine continues to enter the Dniester River. In this regard, the latest samples taken in the Naslavci area pose a safety threat to the population (class 5). The administration is recommended to stop water supply and not to use river water in this area for domestic needs.

Analyses in the Soroka area and downstream (southward along the river) have not yet revealed any health hazard. However, due to the accumulation of pollutants in the north, near the inlet, the population has been advised to stockpile water for use in the coming days, depending on the development of the situation.

“At the same time, there is a risk that the measures taken since yesterday to capture and remove oil will not soon be able to stop all the pollutants continuing to enter the river,” the agency said.

Specialists warn: although the first analyses yesterday showed normal parameters in the Naslavche, the nature of such incidents leads to the fact that the density of pollutants varies depending on the current and depth and changes hourly.

In the districts of Soroca, Floresti, Singerei and the municipality of Balti (class 3 – medium level), the use of water from the Dniester is allowed, subject to the following recommendations:

– prohibition of using water directly from the Dniester for drinking purposes;

– prohibition of using water for animal drinking;

– prohibition of fishing and use of water for irrigation.

In the districts of Soldanesti, Rezina, Orhei, Criuleni, Dubasari, Chisinau municipality, Anenii Noi, Causeni and Stefan Voda (class 1) the water quality is within the normal range, there are no restrictions.
