The first regulation aims to improve food safety by preventing the misuse of veterinary medicines and verifying compliance with the permissible residue limits of their residues in food. A clearer control system is introduced, which includes three types of controls: risk-based control of production in the Republic of Moldova; random control of domestically produced products; random control of imports based on risk assessment. The document also establishes the minimum annual number of samples to be inspected and the types of examinations to be carried out: targeted, random or based on reasonable suspicion.
The selection of substances, animals, products and market operators to be inspected will be based on several factors, including the degree of risk to consumers and the history of violations by economic operators.
The National Agency for Food Safety (ANSA) will be responsible for implementing programs to monitor veterinary drug residues in food. The agency will also be responsible for “ensuring transparency of the results of official controls”.
Predictable fertilizer rotation
In order to enter the market, fertilizers will have to meet stricter safety and quality requirements. In this regard, the government has approved a draft that establishes conformity assessment procedures and technical specifications applicable to these products. The responsibilities of economic operators and competent state authorities in the process of updating the range of fertilizers, technical and scientific knowledge about them are also defined in more detail.
The regulations aim to create a predictable regulatory framework for the market circulation of fertilizers. The aim is to allow only proven and safe products to enter the market. The new regulations introduce differentiated mechanisms for assessing the conformity of fertilizers – depending on the type of fertilizer and the components used, as well as requirements for specific tests for certain product categories.
