This information was shared today with payment service providers and experts by the National Bank of Moldova (NBM) at an event dedicated to the development of instant payments. In 2025 alone, the system will process about 15 million payments worth 13.2 billion lei. This, according to the central bank, indicates “a significant change in consumer behavior”.
Petru Rotaru, First Vice Chairman of the NBM, emphasized that “instant payments are changing the approach of companies to the management of financial flows, offering speed, efficiency and a real competitive advantage”.
“The MIA instant payments system is not just a technical solution, but an engine of modernization of the entire national economy. Its success is directly dependent on our joint ability to offer citizens a simple and intuitive user interface. With this product, we have removed barriers to digitalization and turned MIA into an indispensable tool that reduces dependence on cash and brings tangible benefits to both consumers and the business environment,” said Mr. Rotaru.
MIA for business
As of March 2, 2026, the National Bank of Moldova (NBM) expanded MIA Instant Payments to include functionality for instant transfers between legal entities (B2B). Companies can now make interbank transfers in lei in seconds through online and mobile banking, using a phone number or standard details.
The service works through regular banking apps, and there is an option to make payments via MIA QR code. But to start using it, you need to contact your bank to connect to the MIA for Business service.
The maximum amount of one transaction can reach 500 thousand lei (depends on the specific bank). The limit for payment request (RTP) is 100 thousand lei for one transaction. The transfer fee is 0.7% of the transaction amount. At the same time, there is a maximum limit – no more than 40 lei per transaction.
