
In the first quarter of 2025, the National Bank recorded a net loss of 35.3 million lei. A year earlier, in the first quarter of 2024 – a net profit of 1.105 billion lei. The total aggregate income of the bank for the first three months of this year is estimated at 92.7 million lei.
The data are contained in the official report of the institution, describing the individual financial results of the central bank. At the same time, the document reflects a decrease in the indicators of the institution’s foreign currency assets, including the assets in the IMF accounts and in securities.
The total amount of liabilities and reserves, including retained earnings from the revaluation of assets, decreased during the three months and amounted to 116.6 billion lei, compared to 121.8 billion lei at the end of last year. The decrease in income on placed foreign currency assets led to a decrease in the retained earnings (645.8 billion lei, compared to 699.5 billion lei in Q1 2024) at the end of the quarter.
Usually, the bank allocates all its profits for recapitalization at the end of the fiscal year.
