
The document was drafted by the State Agency for Intellectual Property (AGEPI) and aims to strengthen the protection of genuine local products, according to the Ministry of Justice. In this regard, the procedures for examining applications for registration and granting protection certificates are being improved, the provisions of European Union acts in this field are being implemented, and the legal framework is being updated in line with new needs and international standards.
The draft law establishes a clear, predictable and modern legal framework for the registration, legal protection and use of local products, while ensuring the application of the European Union standards on the territory of the Republic of Moldova. The document introduces optional quality conditions, establishes mechanisms to verify the conformity of products and strengthens the supervision of the use of registered names, including on the online market.
The association of producers and cooperation between them is also encouraged. In case of infringement of the rights of right holders, effective mechanisms for the protection of the rights of right holders are envisaged.
Thus, local products will get better protection and can more easily make profits. Consumers will have more confidence in its origin and quality, and producers will have better conditions for expansion and promotion. At the same time, the project contributes to the development of rural areas and the capitalization of the gastronomic and cultural heritage of the Republic of Moldova, the Ministry of Justice said in a news release.
