Moldova and Ukraine prepare for ratification of the agreement on repatriation of unaccompanied children
On Wednesday, March 5, 2026, the Moldovan government plans to consider a draft law on the ratification of an agreement with Ukraine on cooperation in the repatriation of unaccompanied children to their usual place of residence.
The agreement, signed in Kiev on February 10, 2026, creates a legal framework for cooperation between the countries on the protection of the rights of children who find themselves in a difficult situation outside their country. The draft law provides for the organization of an information exchange mechanism between the states, the identification of responsible institutions and the safeguarding of the child’s interests in the repatriation process.
The ratification of the document will allow Moldova and Ukraine to return children to a safe environment more quickly and will strengthen international cooperation in the protection of minors’ rights.
The costs of temporary maintenance of children until they are handed over to authorized persons are borne by the host country, while transportation costs are borne by the country of origin. The Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of Moldova will coordinate the implementation of the provisions of the agreement at the national level.
The agreement will enter into force after ratification by the Parliament and exchange of diplomatic notifications between the countries.
