The long delay is due to difficult weather conditions for much of the fall and winter – precipitation, high air and soil moisture.
In neighboring Ukraine, the corn harvest has not yet been fully harvested for the same reasons, but the volumes remaining in the field are not critical. This was reported by Deputy Minister of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine Taras Vysotskyy in an interview with BusinessCensor.
According to him, currently about 29 million tons of corn has been threshed out of the forecasted more than 30 million tons. Approximately 5-7% of the area remains in the field.
“The completion of the harvest is likely to take place in March. This is not an unprecedented situation for Ukraine, such a practice has already been in previous years. The delay may affect the marketability and quality of grain. But there is no reason to say that the entire remaining volume will be lost. We are talking about a possible decrease in quality, not about the automatic loss of the harvest,” Vysotskyy emphasized.
