The government at its meeting on June 24 simplified the procedure of registration and business for citizens who provide services on their own (so-called freelancers).
They are exempted from the obligation to keep accounting records and submit reports, but will pay a single tax of 15% of income. It includes income tax, state social and compulsory health insurance contributions, as well as local taxes. But provided that the total annual income does not exceed 1.2 million lei. It is also possible to terminate the activity by notifying the ASP and the financial institution.
The changes are aimed at reducing the costs of entrepreneurs, reducing the administrative burden through digitalization, reducing informal employment and creating conditions for the development of small businesses.
It is worth noting that independent service providers are becoming an increasingly important component of the labor force structure, especially in creative professions, IT, consulting and other fields.
The number of companies using freelancers increased from 4,399 in 2018 to 6,491 in 2024, and the number of independent service providers increased from 38,258 to 54,550.
