Iran has attacked Amazon’s servers

News agencies report that Amazon servers were attacked today. Drone strikes hit facilities in Bahrain (Hamala region) and, according to some reports, in the UAE. The attack caused power outages, damage to data centers and disruptions to services, banking and booking systems in the region.

Amazon confirmed the damage to part of the infrastructure and recommended customers to relocate capacity, with experts noting that the global outage did not occur due to the distributed architecture of AWS. AWS services, including EC2, S3, RDS and others, were affected, resulting in localized outages.

Despite fears of a “world Internet under threat,” experts note that the attacks are unlikely to lead to a complete global outage, although localized problems are significant.

Amazon has so far confirmed the suspension of its data center in Bahrain due to the strike. There have been no official comments from Bahraini authorities on the latest Batelco incident yet.

Earlier, Iran also claimed possible attacks on the offices and infrastructure of other tech giants, including Microsoft, Google, Apple and Nvidia.
