Sergiu Lazarencu
This was announced during discussions on June 6 in Chisinau between the Minister of Environment, Sergiu Lazarencu, and Artur Lorkowski, Director of the Energy Community Secretariat. The sides confirmed the significant progress Moldova has made recently in these issues, which has been recognized at the European level as well. This was achieved thanks to the continuous work on transposition of the European legislation into national regulations and implementation of the main reforms in this field.
A concrete example is the introduction of the MRVA system, a key mechanism for monitoring, reporting and verification of greenhouse gas emissions.
Sergiu Lazarencu also highlighted the recent adoption of the Integrated National Energy and Climate Plan (INCE 2030), which sets ambitious targets: reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 68.6% compared to 1990, increasing the share of renewable sources to 27% and reducing energy consumption.
In addition, Moldova has already submitted to the UN specialized structures its commitments to reduce net emissions by 71% by 2030 and by 75% by 2035. These are enshrined in the Law on Climate Action, which clearly sets the goal of climate neutrality by 2050.
An important aspect mentioned during the discussion was the launch of the elaboration of the Long-Term Strategy for the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions “Climate Neutral Moldova by 2050”.
“Moldova is not only aligning its policies with those of the EU, but also taking concrete steps to transform into a modern, efficient and climate-resilient economy. In this process, the support of the Energy Community Secretariat is crucial,” Minister Sergiu Lazarencu emphasized during the meeting.
