IMO organization will try to define shipping in the Middle East

The Council of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) will hold an emergency meeting on the situation in the Middle East. The Council will focus on the impact of the situation in the Arabian Sea, the Gulf of Oman and the Gulf region on shipping and seafarers, particularly in and around the Strait of Hormuz.

IMO organization will try to define shipping in the Middle East

The 36th Extraordinary Session of the IMO Council will be held on March 18-19, 2026 in London under the chairmanship of Victor Jimenez of Spain, writes Portnews.

The extraordinary session (C/ES.36) has been convened at the request of several Council members. IMO Secretary General Arsenio Dominguez held briefings March 11-12 with representatives of industry organizations and the organization’s member states to exchange information and discuss recent developments.

The Council is the executive body of the IMO and consists of 40 member states elected by the organization’s assembly.
