Yesterday, July 3, in Luxembourg, the two parties signed a cooperation agreement aimed at strengthening the regulatory framework in the field of sustainable finance and developing the institutional capacity of the supervisory authority and the Moldovan banking sector in line with European and international standards.

Technical assistance will be provided in two lines of action: development of a regulatory framework for the integration of ESG criteria (environmental, social and governance) and taxonomy at the national level and institutional capacity building.

Activities foreseen include the development of guidelines for green credits, support for non-financial reporting and organization of training sessions for staff.

“The transposition process of EU Regulation 2020/852 on the taxonomy of sustainable activities should be finalized by us by 2026. The cooperation with IFC strengthens our capacity through specific technical support needed to adapt Moldova’s financial system to European standards,” said Anca Dragu, NBM President, at the IMF and World Bank Group Founding Meeting held in early July.

The partnership between NBM and IFC, as it was reported earlier, is already established. The corporation helps the regulator and the banking sector to implement electronic customer identification technology (eKYC), as well as the digital transformation of the financial sector.
