According to UN Comtrade and the World Bank, the dependence of Moldova’s economy on Chinese goods is only 13.8%, which puts our country on the 98th place in the world out of 182. By the way, the 97th place is occupied by the USA.

Many of the most dependent countries either do not have large domestic production bases or rely on Chinese components to develop export industries such as textiles and electronics assembly.

Cambodia has the highest dependence on Chinese imports at 46.8%. According to The Observatory of Economic Complexity, it imports a significant amount of raw materials for its textile industry, which is one of the country’s largest export industries.

Goods from China account for more than 40% of the imports of Kyrgyzstan, Hong Kong and Mongolia.

In contrast, the Cayman Islands is the only country that accounts for less than 1% of imports from China. Instead, the country is heavily dependent on the Netherlands.

Moldova imports the most from the European Union (over 50% of the total), with Romania being a key partner (over 26% of imports). And China is among the top five suppliers together with Ukraine, Turkey and Germany.

At the same time, there is a certain division by groups of goods. According to the data for 2024-2025:
