The National Food Safety Agency (ANSA) official reports that outbreaks of African swine fever have been detected in domestic pigs and confirmed cases of rabies in domestic and wild animals in several areas in the north and center of the country.
In particular, a case of wild boar (Codreni, Cimislia) was noted. ANSA also mentions the successful elimination of two previously detected ASF outbreaks, while three more outbreaks are “at an advanced stage of elimination”.
In addition, three cases of rabies were detected during the mentioned period: two cases in dogs (Sirec, Straseni district and Rackeria, Riscani district) and in a fox (Baronca, Drochia district).
ANSA urges residents in case of a bite or contact with the saliva of an animal to immediately wash the wound with plenty of water and soap, after which seek emergency care at the nearest medical facility. It is also necessary to report information about contacts with aggressive animals to the territorial units of the agency in order to accelerate the adoption of necessary measures to reduce the risk of spread of the disease among humans and animals.
ANSA warns that there is still a high risk of infection with African swine fever in both domestic pigs and wild boars. The agency recommends not using food waste of animal origin in pig feed and strictly following biosecurity measures to prevent the spread of the virus.
“Do not buy pork from neighboring countries in order to import it into Moldova, as it will be confiscated and destroyed due to the danger it poses,” ANSA said in a statement.
At the same time, the agency recalls the reward of 50 euros for those who report the discovery of wild boar corpses and their whereabouts.
