According to Sudzucker Moldova, the company intends to “sow the above number of hectares with partner farmers”, while its subsidiary Agro-SZM “will directly cultivate 1,860 hectares of a diversified crop portfolio”. The company’s press release notes that by the time the sowing campaign begins, the soil has accumulated enough moisture “to support germination and crop development,” but “farmers are working under pressure from high costs and supply chain instability.”
It is worth recalling that the tense start of the current agricultural season in the sugar beet complex of Moldova was a continuation of the tense end of the previous season of processing of raw materials of the crop-2025, which ended only last month. At the same time, according to expert estimates, last year’s beet harvest remained unharvested and was “put into the soil” on the area of about 2 thousand hectares. Most of the losses occurred in the raw material zone of Moldova Zahăr. Probably, also for this reason, the company has not yet announced plans for the new season of sugar beet production and processing.
In this regard, representatives of Moldovan trading companies previously noted that they had addressed orders for seeds to European companies-producers for the second operator of the sugar beet industry and could ensure their delivery to the country, if the goods were paid for.
Taking into account the fact that at the moment only the announced plans of Sudzucker Moldova for the currently unfolding sowing campaign are a fact, we can assume: this year the total area of sugar beet sowing is unlikely to reach the last year’s level – about 11-12 thousand hectares.
