Food inflation is not backing down

According to the National Bureau of Statistics, annual inflation remained at the level of last month (7.8%), when a slowdown in its annual growth was recorded. Annual price indices for regulated goods and services, food products and beverages do not reduce their inflationary pressure. At the same time, core inflation is within the range of price volatility set by the NBM.

The monthly increase in consumer prices (0.4% in May versus April) is mainly due to the rise in food prices. Fruit increased most significantly in the last month of spring – by 12.7%.

Meat, semi-finished meat products and canned goods (0.7% growth), vegetable oil (0.6%) did not weigh down the consumer basket. Decrease in prices was recorded for chicken eggs – by 6.0%, vegetables – by 3.4%, sugar – by 0.9%.

Services to the population in May rose in price by 0.1%. The same insignificant decrease in prices for non-food products was noted.

For non-food products in the reporting period, average consumer prices for fuel and motor fuel decreased by 1.8% (including diesel fuel – by 3.1%, coal – by 2.7%, gasoline – by 1.6%), while average consumer prices for footwear and clothing increased by 1.1% and, respectively, by 0.6%.
