The Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization notes the strategic importance of the sector for Moldova’s economy. Between January and September 2025, the IT sector accounted for more than a quarter of all services exports, valued at more than $600 million. The annual growth of 23%, according to departmental experts, “reflects the increased competitiveness of Moldovan digital solutions on international markets and reinforces the strategic importance of the sector for the Moldovan economy as one of the most dynamic segments.”
The growth of the IT sector plays a crucial role in the diversification of the Moldovan economy and its integration into the global digital environment, putting Moldova forward as a rising player in the global IT market. The government recognizes the importance of the sector, planning to support digitalization and improve the business climate to further unlock its potential, despite discussions about the future of Moldova IT-Park.
Over the past five years (2020-2024), services exports have doubled to $2.7 billion, and the IT sector is one of the drivers of this growth. Besides making a significant contribution to the trade balance, the IT sector creates high-paying jobs, stimulates innovation, diversifies the country’s export opportunities and attracts investment, the ministry said. In fact, the IT sector contributes a quarter of all foreign exchange earnings from services, becoming a key generator of “intelligence exports.”
